I am writing this post to inform you of some Do’s and Don’ts for the authority sites that we build for you here at SEO Hamster. There has been some questions in the past about what you should do and what you should avoid in order to continually let your authority sites get bigger on Google and gradually increase in organic traffic. In this blog post, I am going to post the things you should avoid and if you do see something I forgot to mention please let me know by sending me an email over at seohamsteronline [at] gmail.com!

Do’s

1. Install a Facebook page on your authority site, and by doing this you will only be improving your overall website’s authority.
2. Update your Facebook page with great content (you can even link content from your own authority site onto your FB page).
3. Add relevant bookmarking to your website (don’t spam it to death).
4. If it’s relevant, add a pinterest account and link it to your authority site.
5. Constantly try to find different methods to monetize your website’s organic traffic – If you need help with this, sign up to SEO Hamster’s mailing list (on the sidebar of this website) and you will receive a free 21 page monetization guide that I created specifically to help show you the different ways you can monetize your website.
6. If you wish to create youtube videos and link it to your authority site, this is a plus because youtube will just boost your authority on Google and ultimately snowball the rankings of your other keywords as well.
7. Test out different banner ads, and check out the Adsense blog post to help you improve earnings (http://seohamster.com/how-to-boost-your-adsense-income-instantly-by-blocking-sites/).  Of course this wouldn’t be relevant to you if you are monetizing your website with another network other than adsense.
8. Try to build a mailing list with your authority site and constantly market good offers via an email autoresponder
9. Encourage website visitor interaction either through Facebook or by reaching out to the subscribers who have input their email onto your site (You can use mailing list plugins on your authority site and email all of your subscribers – simply head over to your wordpress backend’s Plugins-> Add new-> search “mailing list”).

Don’ts

1. I would not recommend Google analytics for tracking because sometimes Google can be bias with your website’s stats and compare with other authority sites which can ultimately decrease your rankings. I have personally removed Google analytics off of ALL of my websites and I only use Histats.com for tracking. Personally, I believe histats has better analytics as they will also show you predictions of where your traffic will end up for the day.
2. I would not recommend installing Cloudflare on your websites. I have had many clients come back to me and let me know that their organic traffic has decreased dramatically after installing cloudflare.  I have had clients go from 2k uniques per day to around only a few hundred unique visitors per day, and after speaking to them found out that they have installed Cloudflare to try to improve website speed.  If you want an improvement in website speed, the answer to this is to upgrade your hosting.  Here’s another blog post just to verify my findings (http://www.codewrecks.com/blog/index.php/2012/09/01/google-probably-does-not-like-cloudflare/)
3. This is optional, but I would recommend clients NOT to do any backlinking on their authority sites. The reason being is because I myself have stayed away from backlinks ever since the Google Panda / Penguin updates and have seen great results so far. I keep everything organic and rely on On-Page SEO to get rankings on Google.  These authority sites are completely On-Page SEO and by keeping everything organic it has been bringing in the best results so far for these authority sites.
4. I would not recommend that you share your website(s) with your friends because often times they might get click-happy and end up clicking on your adsense ads causing some issues with your publisher network.
5. I would not recommend that you do crazy things on your authority websites other than let them grow naturally and organically. I know this is the more boring approach but it is the more SAFER approach and will bring you long term results. All of the authority sites that I have are all 100% organic and natural rankings.  Sometimes not every niche is the same and not every niche will get the same amount of traffic as others would (this is a given).  If you want to continue to build up your empire, just get more authority sites built!  There is a certain amount of traffic that goes into each niche, and not everyone in the world is interested in the same thing!

I would highly recommend that you read these do’s and don’ts carefully and please let me know if I did miss anything.  By keeping your authority sites organic and naturally growing you will see great results in the long run. Method #1 – Boosting conversions by using a live chat system

If you own a sales / leads based website and looking to improve your website’s conversion rates, I would highly recommend that you try adding a chat script (yes, just like the one we have here on SEO Hamster) to help improve your conversions.  Nowadays websites and business on the internet has changed since 1997 and things are not the way they used to be. It is time for you to step up your game and start interacting with your website visitors.

It’s always nice to know that someone is really behind a website rather than letting your visitors think that they are visiting a ghost town. When you interact with your website visitors they will get to know who you are and whose behind the operations.  By adding a live chat system on your website not only will you be improving sales but you will also get a live 1 on 1 discussion with your website visitors and see what they like, dislike, and would possibly be requesting from you.

Method #2 – Add A Lead Capture Page / Optin Form Onto Your Website

If you want to take your business to the next level and improve your conversions DRAMATICALLY, I would highly recommend that you use a lead capture page or an optin form on your website.  By capturing your visitor’s emails they are allowing you to email them with your offers and information regarding your websites.  Even if you are getting 1-2 subscribers per day that is still GOLD for your business.  As many internet marketers will say “the money is in the list”, and it’s completely true.

The bigger your email list, the more money you will be making in the long run. If you are not capturing emails and requesting your visitors to subscribe to your mailing list, then you are losing money guaranteed.  By capturing your visitor’s email you are building your book of business and bringing them offers which will put money into your bank account.  Every niche and every offer on the internet has a visitor who is interested and will subscribe their email to obtain more information.

It is very important that you are acquiring your visitor’s email information so that you can market them your offers continuously.  I personally have had websites that generated 1-2 subscribers per day which turned out to be worth $50 per lead.  You also want to make sure that the leads that you receive are funneled through at LEAST a 7 day email autoresponder funnel.  By having an automated email sent to your subscribers on a daily basis for 7 days, they will get to know who you are (which is key to marketing your list) and be more inclined to the services / products you are selling.

I would highly recommend that you use an autoresponder like Getresponse / Aweber or if you would like to go the free trial alternative, I would recommend Mailing Chimp.

By inserting a chat system and an email autoresponder series to your websites you will only be increasing visitor loyalty and interaction through these fun and lucrative marketing techniques!  My personal favorite is the Zopim chat because you are able to interact in real time with your website visitors as well as see what they are looking at to help you better understand what kind of changes you could make on your website.  Internet marketing is all about testing and finding out what works best, I would recommend that you go out there and find the best ways to monetize your website and test out different offers!

The list shown above are known to be low paying clicks which you can eliminate from your Adsense campaigns.

The Next step which you could go through to eliminate unwanted ads is to click on the “General Categories” tab within your Allow & Block ads section.  This will show you categories which you can pick and choose which ones you would want to block on your adsense campaigns.  If you are running ads on specific niche sites, this would be extremely helpful in helping you find the best categories to prevent unwanted ads from popping up.

By doing this, you can help improve your clickthroughs on your website(s) with more relevant ads for your users.  The more relevant your ads are for your visitors, the higher chances you will get more clicks.

Bonus – How to improve earnings a little bit more by testing image vs text ads

If you want to test out which ads perform better for your website, I would highly recommend that you test out image vs. text ads.  To do this, simply head over to your Adsense “my ads” tab and click on the “edit ad type” link within any ads that you have created.  You will see 3 options :

• Text & image/rich media ads
• Text ads only
• Image/rich media ads only

By testing out “text ads only” you might see an improvement in clickthroughs depending on your niche.  Sometimes people prefer to click on text ads rather than image ads.  This is something you can play around with and see which type of ads are giving you the most clicks on your website.  Doing these similar tests I was able to get triple the amount of clicks by finding out the type of ads my visitors like to click on.

I would encourage you to take a few minutes to do these little tweaks to help improve your Adsense campaigns especially if you want to see an improvement in your earnings.  Just keep testing and persevering and you will see success!  I wish you the best of luck on your ad campaigns

- More trusted on Google, and the HIGHEST conversion rates

Pros : Highly converting and trusted site targeting thousands of keywords ranking to funnel in buyers for your niche

Cons : Time consuming to create, but well worth the time creating one

Now who is the winner in this instance? It will of course be the Authority Site model, and because of this model you are able to generate as much money as your market allows you to. Authority sites just have the upper hand when it comes to generating an income on the internet within a specific niche. Authority sites concentrate on multiple hundreds and thousands of keywords, while a micro niche site concentrates on only specific keywords.  In the long run, visitors will re-visit authority sites because they are a central hub of information within their niche.  Micro niche sites on the other hand will be visited once and forgotten by the visitor.
